Kinematic Marketing

Kinematics is the study of the motion of objects.

I like to explain it in terms of the human body: the body is made up of many parts–all working together and separately at the same time. The eyes see what they see, and what they see informs what other parts do in response. The legs and feet move around guided by sight. That sight also helps hands write, type, catch, grab, and pick up things. The mouth eats what the hands place into it. The ears hear words that the mind interprets, but also hear sounds–a siren or tires screeching–that the eyes quickly locate, sending signals to the brain to inform the legs and feet to jump the heck out of the way as that screeching car comes barreling toward you.

We like to view marketing the same way. Effective advertising may be as simple as a singular medium (TV, radio, print, digital), but often involves multiple media working in conjunction to deliver the most beneficial message possible. TV, radio, billboards, brochures, digital banners, video pre-roll, etc. can be designed to maximize the strengths of each medium while presenting a consistent, collaborative message across them all that ensure viewers, listeners, and readers encounter the same core message everywhere they turn. Like the human body, a well-designed campaign will ensure that all the parts work together to accomplish the intended objectives.
